CREATIVE ART WORKSHOPS
Hosted by various artists

These workshops are designed to explore your own creativity through visual arts and craft in a relaxed and socialble environment.  All levels of ability are welcome and beginners or those with little experience are particularly encouraged to come along and have a go at expressing themselves!  The focus of the workshops is on exploring and enjoying the creative process in the company of other people of all ages.

Past workshops have included a range of styles and mediums from boomerangs to holograms!

Please see below

The intention is to create individual works of art, where possible using natural and recycled materials.  We will provide everything you will need for the evening, however we would like to encourage you to gather and collect your own elements where possible.  If needed help and advice will be available within the group on a practical and inspirational level.  We always work in both a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with good food and fresh chai being served.

The group is a chance to stitch, mend and chat. Knitting has been expanded to invite any type of mending from socks to drums. We also have an array of retro knitting patterns which cause much merriment, the nipple hats are a crowd puller if ever I saw one!

The Cafe is on the corner of Bond Rd at Bitterne Triangle, opposite the charity shop. Allesandro is always on hand for you to order any snacks. Our house is also near Bitterne Triangle and I am happy to give the address information if you haven't been before. Veggie fayre/refreshments provided.

Previous Creative Arts Workshops:

Beginner's Feltmaking - with Wren

Feltmaking is the oldest method of creating a fabric, and is a therapeutic and satisfying way to connect with an ancient craft. In this beginner’s workshop, we will learn the basic method of designing and making a piece of felt using dyed and natural wool rovings. During the workshop, Wren can advise you on ways to use the piece you create for a variety of purposes, from a simple hanging to a bag or wrap, and she will suggest ways in which to explore further.

All materials and equipment for this workshop are provided, and as well as taking away your work, there is also the opportunity to purchase small quantities of wool for use at home. Please wear comfortable clothing, as the process is quite physical and can involve standing for extended periods.

Holograms - with Pearl John

Pearl John uses large format holography as a medium to examine issues of self-identity. She combines holographic images with text, video and photography to reach toward the meaning that exists at the boundaries between words and images, and between artist and viewer. Pearl graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Holography in 1992. Her holograms and installations have been exhibited in Japan, Europe and throughout the USA and we are very fortunate to have her hold this event.  In this workshop, Pearl will talk about her work and other artists who have used holography, you will also have the chance to create your own piece of holography to take home.  Please bring a shiny object (e.g. coin, medal, piece of jewellery) no bigger than 2 inches by 2 inches to create a hologram – Pearl will also have some objects available if you can’t find anything suitable to use.  The cost of this workshop includes materials.
For more information on her work, see http://www.pearljohn.co.uk/holography.html or telephone Pearl on 07921130622
